Vallejo Desert Yellow Spray Primer 28.015 (400ml Can)

Vallejo Fantasy Color Desert Yellow Spray Primer 28.015 (400ml)

Matte Desert Yellow Primer for Terrain, Armor & Historical Models

A strong desert base color saves time when painting armies, vehicles, terrain, and fantasy miniatures. Vallejo Fantasy Color Desert Yellow Spray Primer 28.015 gives hobby painters a fast, smooth way to prime and base coat models with a warm desert yellow tone that works especially well for historical armor, sci-fi armies, sandy terrain, fantasy creatures, ruins, bases, and large batch-painting projects.

This 400ml spray can is designed for metal, plastic, and resin miniatures or models. It works as both a primer-style base coat and a highly pigmented color layer, helping you cover larger surfaces quickly while keeping fine details, panel lines, rivets, armor plates, and sculpted textures visible. The matte finish also gives later paint layers, washes, highlights, drybrushing, and weathering effects a better surface to build on.

Unlike a regular brush-on base color, Vallejo Fantasy Color Desert Yellow Spray Primer 28.015 is especially useful when you need consistent coverage across multiple figures or larger model parts. It can help create a unified starting tone for desert camouflage, sand-covered vehicles, tabletop terrain, warm fantasy bases, beast hides, or sun-baked sci-fi environments before adding shadows, highlights, pigments, or chipping effects.

Advanced Dual-Nozzle Control

Vallejo Hobby Paint Sprays include two interchangeable nozzles, giving modelers more control depending on the project size.

• Precision low-flow nozzle: Useful for smaller miniatures, detailed areas, controlled passes, and avoiding excess paint buildup.
• Medium-flow nozzle: Better for larger surfaces such as vehicles, terrain pieces, tanks, aircraft, monsters, or batch-priming multiple models.
• Fast coverage: Helps speed up army painting, terrain building, and large project preparation.
• Matte self-leveling finish: Dries to a smooth surface that supports washes, drybrushing, highlights, and weathering.
• Color match advantage: Designed to match equivalent tones in Vallejo Game Color and Model Color ranges, making brush touch-ups easier.

Why Desert Yellow Is Useful on the Workbench

Desert Yellow is more than a simple yellow primer. It is a warm, sandy tone that can serve as a practical foundation for historical desert schemes, fantasy bases, dry earth effects, sci-fi armor, bone-like surfaces, leather undertones, and weathered terrain. It is also useful when you want a lighter base before applying browns, tans, ochres, creams, or muted greens.

For miniature painters, Vallejo Fantasy Color Desert Yellow Spray Primer 28.015 can reduce the number of brush layers needed to reach an even base color. For scale modelers, it provides a quick starting point for desert vehicles, aircraft, armor panels, diorama groundwork, and dusty environmental effects. You can also pair it with Vallejo Game Color paints for matching brush details, highlights, and touch-ups.

Technical Specifications & Application Guide

Beyond the Label

Vallejo Fantasy Color Desert Yellow Spray Primer 28.015 works as a fast foundation for projects that need a warm, sandy starting point. For historical modelers, it is useful under desert armor, armored vehicles, field equipment, and dusty diorama surfaces. For fantasy painters, it works well under bone, parchment, leather, beast skin, desert ruins, and earth-toned bases.

The matte surface gives later paint layers something to grip while keeping the model ready for washes, drybrushing, chipping, pigments, and weathering effects. This makes Desert Yellow useful as both a time-saving primer and a practical color base for projects where warm earth tones are part of the final scheme.

Pro Tips from the Studio

For best results, shake the can thoroughly before use and test the spray on a spare part or piece of cardboard before applying it to the model. Use short, light passes instead of one heavy coat. This helps avoid pooling, preserves fine details, and creates a smoother surface for later painting.

When painting desert armor or sandy terrain, use Desert Yellow as the foundation, then build depth with brown washes, tan highlights, light drybrushing, and dust effects. For fantasy miniatures, it works well under warm bone, leather, parchment, desert skin tones, and sun-baked bases.

Use the fine-flow nozzle for small models, recessed areas, and controlled details. Use the medium-flow nozzle for terrain boards, vehicles, monsters, large bases, or batch-priming multiple miniatures. Spray from about 810 inches away and apply several light passes instead of one heavy coat.
